Petrol just jumped again. That is not a free solar quote

EN | BM

Dated prices: the pump prices on this page are the Ministry of Finance APM prices for 24–30 September 2026, from the MoF release of 23 September 2026. MoF sets these prices every week. For the current week, check the MoF press releases (in Bahasa Malaysia). The electricity point below does not depend on the pump price.

Unsubsidised pump prices moved again for 24–30 September 2026. That weekly shock is real. It is still not a reason to sign a “solar pays for your petrol” WhatsApp quote.

What MoF actually set for 24–30 September 2026

Ministry of Finance, Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APM), week of 24–30 September 2026:

Fuel Retail (unsubsidised) Change vs prior week
RON95 RM4.57/litre +20 sen (from RM4.37)
RON97 RM5.05/litre +20 sen (from RM4.85)
Diesel RM5.42/litre +15 sen (from RM5.27)

This is the fifth unsubsidised rise in six weeks. The week before (17–23 Sep) was already +35 sen on unsubsidised RON95 / RON97 / diesel.

Who still pays the old sticker: eligible BUDI95 recipients stay at RM1.99/litre for RON95 (government absorbs RM2.58/litre at that week’s unsubsidised price). BUDI Diesel stays RM2.10. SKPS / SKDS stay at their published subsidised rates. If you are on those, that week’s hike was not your pump price.

If you are not on BUDI / SKPS, the unsubsidised number is what the nozzle charges.

The honest link to a roof

Petrol and your TNB bill are different meters. A panel does not fill a petrol tank. Do not buy a system because someone multiplied litres × 20 sen and called it “solar savings.”

The useful link is narrower:

  1. Fuel inflation shows up every week. Electricity on a landed TNB meter shows up every month. Both are energy costs you can feel.
  2. Under ATAP (from 1 Jan 2026), the expensive electricity unit you can still kill is the one the house uses while the sun is up — self-consumed solar. That stack (Domestic General ≤1,500 kWh, no AFA) is 44.43 sen/kWh (Energy 27.03 + Capacity 4.55 + Network 12.85). Export only credits Energy Charge at 27.03, same billing month, then forfeits. Details: ATAP vs NEM.
  3. If you already drive an EV (or are about to), higher petrol makes the ICE alternative more expensive — but the roof only helps the car when the car is home in sun hours. Night-only charging is still grid (often ToU off-peak). That math is on solar vs night ToU, not on any single week’s pump board.

So: petrol hikes are a timing reminder to check whether midday self-use (house, and only then daytime EV) is real for your roof. They are not a payback calculator.

Who should open an ATAP file after a hike like this

  • Existing TNB consumer in Peninsular Malaysia. Panels on a rooftop within your own premise. Multi-tenant (tenant sub-meter) accounts: not eligible.
  • You actually use meaningful kWh in daylight (WFH, kids home, AC midday, or an EV that parks at noon often enough).
  • You understand export is not a 12-month bank anymore.
  • You are willing to size for self-use, not for “bank petrol money.”

Who should wait

  • BUDI95 / SKPS, so the 24–30 Sep hike never hit your wallet.
  • Empty house all day — the roof would mostly export at 27.03 and risk month-end forfeit / MAQ forfeit.
  • ICE-only commute with no daytime load story, and a vendor pitching “petrol + solar = free driving.”
  • Any quote that still says NEM 1:1 or invents RM/month petrol offsets from panels.

What we will not publish on this page

  • Litres × sen = “you save RM___ with solar.”
  • Payback years tied to RON95.
  • “Drive free forever.”
  • Vendor ROI, sticker charger prices, or averaging AFA.

Petrol naik lagi.

Kementerian Kewangan, Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APM), minggu 24–30 September 2026:

Bahan api Harga runcit (tanpa subsidi) Perubahan vs minggu lepas

  • Anda faham eksport bukan bank 12 bulan lagi.
  • Anda sanggup saiz untuk guna sendiri, bukan untuk “bank duit petrol.”

Siapa patut tunggu

  • Tahun pulangan modal dikaitkan RON95.
  • “Pandu percuma selamanya.”
  • ROI vendor, harga pelekat charger, atau purata AFA.
